About this tool

Word stores Quick Parts, AutoText, cover pages and similar reusable snippets as Building Blocks inside a document or template. This tool opens that store and lets you browse, rename, re-assign to a different gallery or category, reorder, duplicate, delete and import them — things Word itself makes awkward or impossible.

When to use it

Use it to tidy a Building Blocks template that has grown messy, to move entries into the gallery where people will actually find them, to rename entries in bulk, or to copy blocks from one template into another.

How to use it

1. Open a Word document or template that contains Building Blocks — typically Building Blocks.dotx or a .dotx of your own.
2. Filter and sort the list, then edit names, galleries, categories and order, or duplicate and delete entries.
3. Save the file to download the updated copy; your original is never modified.

Good to know

• Building Blocks live in the file's glossary part, so a document that has none simply shows an empty list — the entries you see in Word may live in your Building Blocks.dotx rather than in the document itself.
• Which gallery an entry belongs to decides where Word offers it, so re-assigning a gallery changes where users find it, not what it contains.
• The content of a block is preserved as it is; this tool manages the entries and their properties rather than editing the formatted content inside them.

Common questions

Where does Word keep my Quick Parts?

Usually in Building Blocks.dotx in your user profile, not in the document. If a block appears in Word but not here, open that template instead of the document.

Can I copy Building Blocks between templates?

Yes — import brings entries in from another file, which is much quicker than recreating them by hand and avoids the copy-paste formatting drift you get otherwise.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It is opened, edited and saved entirely in your browser and never sent to a server.
